Reviews from some of our guests.
Penny and George, Aug/Sep 24 “We had such a lovely time staying at Badan Mhugaidh and exploring the beautiful area. The cottages are lovely and well equipped for cooking and relaxing in, with amazing views over the Loch and to the mountains beyond. We were fortunate with sunny weather and clear skies, so the stars were clear and we saw the northern lights. There aren’t many places I have been where I have seen a buzzard, an otter and sea eagles from the terrace and the changing light from the deck was mesmeric, you could sit and watch it for ever. This is an extremely peaceful place to come and very quiet. Nigel and Jan were most helpful and friendly with suggestions as to where to walk and what to eat, and were right on hand to sort out any minor problems. There are amazing walks right from the door and for the more intrepid walker many hills to climb close by. You might need to bring Smidge if it’s been raining and the sun comes out, but it wasn’t a problem very much. We hope to be back. Either cottage is lovely, we spent time in both of them! A car is probably necessary to make the most of the area, we drove from Inverness, all very easy.”
Sandro, Jul/Aug 24 “This was our last cottage on our tour of Scotland, and it was the most beautiful place and accommodation. The cottage is very tastefully furnished, and the kitchen is very well-equipped, there is a barbecue outside where we had a BBQ twice. We loved staying there so much. The views over the loch are so spectacular. Many short and long trips can be made from there, even with children. The restaurants in the area are very good. The landlord was very friendly and gave us lots of good and useful advice when we first arrived, already in his first massage he has sent a whole list of interesting facts. This is a place and a cottage we would definitely like to return to.”
Marc, June 24 “A great vacation despite the cool weather in June. We looked forward to this beautiful house after hiking or riding our motorcycles. Fantastic beds, much better than in most of the hotels I have stayed. We will definetly come back.”
Ellen, May 24 "Nigel and Jan's place was amazing. The views from the home were even more magnificent than the photos promised, which is hard to credit but absolutely true. The home was lovely, clean, and elegantly decorated with everything we needed for a relaxing, comfortable getaway. The location of the home could not have been more advantageous, with multiple walks and hikes immediately available to you upon exiting the front door. There were several nearby towns with delicious options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and groceries. And any drive you take in either direction promises draw dropping vistas and panoramic landscapes. I would come back and stay here in a heart beat."
Rupert, May 24 "The is a lovely spot, close to two villages, two lochs and plenty of mountains. Nigel and Jan were very helpful and easy to communicate with. Will hopefully be back soon."
Catherine Lillingston, Apr 24 “Dear Jan & Nigel, we really loved our stay at Badan Mhugaidh cottage and its surroundings. The walk are lovely, the local villages are pretty but most of all our hosts care and help just made us feel welcome . Thank you for everything and hopefully see you again as there is so much more to see. À bientôt, sincerely yours , Catherine.”
Jo, Aug/Sep 23 "What a magnificent spot the cottage is in. Views were incredible with spectacular scenery all around. Amazing walks from a very comfortable cottage which was as described and made an easy to live in base from which to explore by foot or car. We did not want to leave. Nigel was extremely helpful - we hope to visit again."
Janet, Aug 23 "Badan Mhugaidh is like nothing else! Stunning location and accomodation that leaves you wanting for nothing, except more time to be there!! Your every travel need has been thought of and provided in five star standard. Local information is tailored to your need, the recommendations from Nigel absolutely on the mark. I cant recommend this place highly enough!"
Ruth, Jul/Aug 23 "We had a wonderful stay at Badan Mhugaidh. Idyllic location and had everything we needed. Nigel was a great host, lots of local recommendations and on hand if for anything we needed. Highly recommended!"
Stuart, Jun 23 "Wonderful property and area. Midges bad morning and evenings in the hot weather we got."
Fiona, Mar/Apr 23 "We had a fantastic stay with Nigel and Jan. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable, spotless and the hosts could not have been more lovely. The location is amazing looking over Upper Loch Torridon. At any time of day and weather, it was captivating. Bedding linen was soft and comfy. Couldn’t have been bettered."
Lesley-Anne, Sep 22 "This is a fabulous place to stay and is a very comfortable and welcoming space with amazing views and facilities. Lots of thought has gone into anticipating what may be needed by guests - the mud room was an innovative space and great to get the dog washed for going into the main accommodation (our dog liked the treats more than the washing..). We had an electric car and all worked well with the charging facilities about 5 min drive away. Good location and within easy reach of some great restaurants which we found to be both dog and toddler friendly. Would highly recommend and hope to be back again ourselves."
Lisa, Sep 22 "Great location—away from it all yet close by to everything you could need: a few great restaurants nearby, small grocery stores, hikes right from the house. The kitchen was well stocked with all pots and pans you need. The view of the mountains and loch out back was hard to look away from. We loved the laundry room and boot room, our clothes actually dried in the heated spaces! Nigel was very kind and welcoming and had suggestions for things to do in the area. You could stay here for a week and not be without something to do, a perfect getaway!"
Alex, Aug 22 "We had a fantastic stay in the cottage: the location is as stunning as Nigel and Jan's listing suggests, the area incredibly beautiful and with tons of great outdoor activities on the doorstep (as well as lovely places to eat). The cottage itself was perfect: pristine inside, with huge amounts of attention to detail to make it a cosy and practical place from which to explore the area. And Nigel was very welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. Many thanks to you both!"
Alice, Jul/Aug 22 "Idyllic stay, in a very special place in the Highlands. Lovely, well equipped cottage with excellent views and amenities. Nigel was on hand as required, with some excellent food and walking recommendations. Didn’t want to leave and would return in a heartbeat."
James, Jul 22 "We had a brilliant stay here - a very comfortable, well furnished house, with lots of thoughtful touches to make the things even better, and the wonderful hosts always ready to help if you need it. A stunning location, too - you could spend hours just drinking in the view across the loch, though then you’d miss out on all the walking, exploring, kayaking etc that there is to do around Shieldaig. Can’t wait to come back!"
Duncan, Jul 22 "We had a fantastic stay. It's a lovely cottage, comfortable and modern with everything you want and the most stunning location. Loved siting out on the deck with the firepit with an amazing view of the loch and mountains. Nigel was very helpful and welcoming."
Barry, Jun/Jul 22 "We had a lovely week at Badan Mhugaidh. The house is beautiful, well equipped, very dog friendly, there’s loads of walks, cafes and restaurants nearby. Highlights for us was a drive over the mountain pass to Diabaig for dinner, breakfast at the Whistle Stop Cafe in Torridon and walking to the bar at The Torridon Hotel."
Kamala, Jun 22 "Nigel and Jan’s cottage is the perfect retreat and is easily one of our favorite Airbnbs. It’s clear that Nigel and Jan put a lot of thought and care into the cottage. It has been beautifully restored. It was the perfect size for our family of four (12- and 14-year-old kids). The kitchen is well-equipped, with a full set of pots, pans, and cooking utensils. There’s a mud room with a washer and ample drying space that’s shared with the adjacent rental. There are numerous hiking/walking trails right outside the front door. The fireplace was perfect to cozy up to in the evenings. We would definitely stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it."
Charles, Jun 22 "Great lodge in a stunning location. Nigel is always on hand to help with local knowledge and guidance if required. Would strongly recommend for people who enjoy the great outdoors . Also perfect for dogs and even dog bowls and treats were supplied. 5 star lodge and would definitely recommend."
Serge, May 22 "Randonnée en Ecosse
Bon gite, bien équipé et bien placé si vous souhaitez faire de la randonnée dans le région, sites de départ des randonnées facilement accessible en voiture."
John and Karen, May 22 "We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and the Torridon area. We managed a couple of good cycles to Applecross and also to Diabeg (both pretty challenging!) Walking was good too though we were restricted to low levels to remain below cloud level. Thankyou for the Gille Brighde recommendation-we managed a lovely indulgent lunch there too and managed to pick up fresh fish from both Torridon and Applecross smokeries. We were amazed over the vastness and beauty of the area and will definitely want to return to explore more of it before too long. I hope you have a good season with guests that appreciate both the area and the lovely accommodation."
Colin, Apr 22 "Location needs more stars - magical place and everything has been thought through to the very last point. Make sure you go down to the water and walk the loch path! Enjoy the fir pit as a BBQ we did!"
Kirsten and Tom, Mar/Apr 2022 “We absolutely loved our stay in Iasgair Cottage. Not only was it a fantastic base from which to explore this truly stunning part of the world, it was such a serene, tranquil place to wake up in and come back to every day. It’s so beautifully furnished and really in-keeping with its surroundings - we felt as though we stepped into the pages of a stylish interiors magazine as we walked through the door, and then you get the view! Just stunning. Nigel and Jan were incredibly hospitable hosts and we loved hearing about the work they are doing to restore the landscape around them, and to benefit wildlife. We’ve travelled a fair bit in Scotland but it was our first time in Torridon, which is breathtaking. We completely fell in love with the area, with its fabulous beaches, glorious mountains, amazing high hill walks and genuine hospitality. We are already aching to get back and will definitely stay at Badan Mhugaidh again if we can!"
Jessica, Aug 2021 "The setting and views at Badan Mhugaidh are stunning. The attention to detail that Jan and Nigel have given, both in the house and the landscape around the property made our stay a very memorable experience. Local walks are delightful and varied. We're so pleased to have had this introduction to such a beautiful part of Scotland."
Jonathan, Aug 2021 "Really great cottage, very well furnished and only a stone’s throw from Loch Torridon. Nigel and Jan are very helpful with everything from suggested restaurants and pubs and drives/walks etc. We particularly enjoyed taking a bottle of wine and sitting on a grassy knoll on the loch in the evening on a sunny day. Only a 5 minute drive to Shieldaig - highly recommend the pub (Shieldaig Bar & Coastal Kitchen) for supper and the cafe (Stovolds) for breakfast, lunch etc. Great restaurants everywhere in fact, all within 30 minutes drive. After touring around, this was our favourite part of Scotland."
Stewart, Jul 2021 "Just returned from a wonderful break in excellent, very well-appointed and well thought through accommodation which is ideally located to explore the Torridon area. Nigel & Jan are excellent hosts and their accommodation is perfectly situated with wonderful views, trails and walks on the doorstep. Cannot recommend more highly."
Anne, May 2021 "Just what was needed after months of Lockdown! A wonderful remote location, walks from the door, unsurpassable views, many places of interest to visit by car. To cap it all, Nigel and Jan, have designed perfect accommodation, filled with all the comforts you need. They are perfect hosts, a warm welcome, then quietly in the background, there if you need anything. Thank you both."
Lisa, May 2021 "Ideal location for access to mountains and lochs. Property well equipped and designed to cover all requirements for an outdoors holiday. Also, the views are amazing."
John, Nov 20 "Perfect for walking/Climbing and Cycling with a boot room to accommodate wet clothing etc. Clean, comfortable with every convenience, fabulous views (weather permitting), great beds and bathrooms. Enjoy!"
Jess and Sam, Sep 2020 "We only spent 4 nights in this truly beautiful area but we absolutely loved it. We arrived to a warm welcome from Nigel and appreciated the steps they had put in place considering the covid 19 circumstances i.e wearing masks and hand sanitizer in the porch. The house is tastefully decorated, clean and very cosy when the fire is lit. There was plenty of firewood available and the beds were incredibly comfortable. This house will always hold a very special place in our hearts as on our first night we walked 5 minutes from the front door to a secluded beach and got engaged! We couldn't have asked for a more romantic setting and what a wonderful place to enjoy the first few days of being an engaged couple."
Hilde, Feb 20 "We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We have got a warm welcome from Nigel and Jan when we arrived. When we came back from a day trip to Skeye, the fireplace was burning so it was cosy and warm. What a service! Everything was there to make our stay relaxed. Good beds! Stunning views and beautiful nature around. We will come back!"
Lauren and Raphael, Oct 19 "We stayed 3 nights at Nigel and Jan’s and it was perfect. They made all the communication and logistic simple even though we arrived later than planned, they still took time to greet us and show us around the place. But most importantly they gave us all their best tips for places to see, walk, eat, drive and all their advice was spot on! They lent us A few maps, it was really helpful. The place itself is perfect, clean and functional and beautiful, the views are stunning and it was a pleasure to stay for dinner in the confortable living room heated by the stove. Beds are really big very comfortable! Highly recommended! Lauren"
Colin Oct 19 “This place is very, very nice indeed. So nice, I really don't want to tell anyone about it. However, if you are looking for a house in the right location, with the right views, near to a very good pub, decorated and furnished to very high standard with a well equipped modern kitchen, this is for you. It is definitely a cut above the rest.”
Edward Oct 19 “This is a beautiful spot with a superb cottage, well thought out and insightful touches. Nigel and Jan are very willing to help with how to get the best from this lovely part of the country.”
Ruth Sep 19 “A beautiful house in a stunning location. We were greeted at the door and have a fantastic induction into the house and local area. There's loads to see and do near by, especially if you love long scenic walks and delicious local meals! We would absolutely stay again in an instant!”
Jonathan Sep 19 “Amazing hosts, amazing (luxury) cottage! Nigel and Jan are super nice and know the area very well - make sure to ask them for tips rather than relying on google/tripadvisor etc. The cottage is really top notch: wood-burning oven, fully-equipped kitchen, and luxury hotel bedding/linens/towels. Absolutely worth the price!”
Betty Sep 19 “I wished we had stayed longer. It warms my heart to know Nigel and Jan and doing their part to take care of the planet and at the same time provide luxury accommodations for travels. It is stunning and there are so many outdoor activities in the area. We only had time for two hikes. One to the hotel about 5 miles round trip and the other just the road about 2 miles. The bed and bedding are both top of the line. The local restaurants are some of the best we have experienced. You will need reservations. If you plan to cook at home bring food with you. Dingwall is the closest large grocery store.”
Alistair Aug 19 “Great location and wonderful accommodation. Very accommodating hosts. Highly recommend taking the trail to the Torridon Inn for dinner and visiting Nanny’s in Shieldaig for coffee.”
Alexander Jun 19 “Wunderschönes Cottage mit traumhafter Aussicht und Lage. Nigel ist ein sehr aufmerksamer Gastgeber. Das Haus ist super sauber gewesen und einfach traumhaft eingerichtet”
Annie & Chris, June 2019 “Thank you both so much for our stay last week at Badan Mhugaidh. We had a wonderfully relaxed time in your delightful cottage which was so well yet simply furnished. We were thoroughly impressed by the beauty and distinctiveness of the Torridon area and we had a memorable time which we are already talking about repeating.”
Matthew, Apr 2019 "A warm welcome from Nigel and Jan. We will stay again just for the tap water. Seriously best tap water we have ever had. Because of their location and the fantastic views you could expect they would skimp a little on amenities. But they did not. The best beds we have slept on possibly ever. We will be purchasing the same model for our own home. And the towels. The only towels we have used in the UK that do not need the softening power of a tumble dryer. We have ordered the towels. Then there is the wood burner. We bought one. This is the perfect place to re-discover life. La dolce vita"
John, Mar 2019 "We had a lovely stay at Badan Mhugaidh. The setting of the two cottages is spectacular and they are within easy reach of a number of other, wonderful locations. We had typical West Coast weather for March so were grateful for the very comfortable, cosy accommodation. Nigel and Jan were very thoughtful hosts with a wealth of local knowledge. We would love to go back."
Sophie, December 2018 “We stayed for four nights and from the moment we arrived knew that we wouldn’t want to leave! The location is beyond stunning and the house is perfect. Everything is high quality and there are many small touches like some sweet Christmas biscuits when we arrived, local organic shower gel, and as we stayed just after Christmas some very tasteful small decorations had been put up. We had total privacy but knew that Nigel and Jan were on hand if we needed anything. This is a perfect place to stay!”
Julie-Ann, December 2018 “We had a wonderful stay in an amazing location. The cottage was very modern, thoughtfully designed with every amenity. Great hosts with a wealth of local knowledge they happily share. Thoroughly recommend.”
Claire, Ed and Arlo, November 2018 “Thankyou so much for having us to stay in your beautiful holiday cottage. We have loved our stay, every moment of it. The cottage has been the perfect cosy bolthold and we will miss it very much. You have so much attention to detail and the amenities have been exceptional. I personally have adored the soft beds and fluffy towels. Ed and Arlo have enjoyed sitting by the woodburner sipping whisky. The walks are just stunning and we have seen deer (lots of deer), otters and seals. It really does feel wild and rough, yet breathtaking. The air and water have been so good for us as has the downtime. We very much look forward to returning sometime with company so we can show our friends the beauty of this place. Wishing you luck with your developments. Keep doing what you are doing because its spot on.”
Evans family, October 2018 “We enjoyed a lovely stay at Nigel & Jan’s at a time of year when you need to know that your accommodation is going to be cosy, well-appointed & luxurious. Badan Mhugaidh certainly ticked all these boxes. The house itself is situated in such a way that the breathtaking scenery can be enjoyed from every room. We were able to walk straight from the house on hikes & bike rides of varying difficulty so all members of the family were happy.
Thank you Nigel & Jan for making our stay a memorable one.”
Chris, October 2018 "Although we are reluctant to leave review of this magical place as we would like to keep it to ourselves we know that Jan and Nigel need to run their business ???? It’s wonderful, has everything you need to relax and explore this beautiful area. We loved it and it’s so much better than a hotel."
Tess and Ric, Sep 2018 "My husband and I spent a week at Badan Mhugaidh this September, as our honeymoon. We couldn't have been happier, everything about the cottage and the setting is perfect. The cottage is kitted out both stylishly and for comfort too. The views from the cottage are breathtaking, whatever the weather the view across the loch is food for your soul. One morning we even saw an otter down on the shore line below the cottage. You're spoilt for choice with many wonderful walks, and drives, nearby cafes and pubs for lunch or dinner."
Christine, September 2018 “Nigel and Jan's place is a wonderful retreat! it was spectacular being right on the Loch and having trails for walking right outside your door. The house is beautifully decorated with everything you might need, including a roaring fire. The beds and linens were a wonderful treat after a long day of exploring. Lots of books and maps to help you enjoy the area. I would definitely recommend their base in Torridon!”
Siobhan, September 2018 “An absolutely magical place with an astounding attention to detail which made the stay simply perfect. Nigel and Jan were lovely and unobtrusive hosts, sharing great restaurant recommendations and making sure my fire was lit in the evenings. The cottage was perfect for a quiet weekend off the grid, walking in nature, taking long baths and reading in front of the fire. I will be returning! Thank you.”
Dwight, September 2018 “This place is magical and awe inspiring, unlike any place I’ve had very been. The view of steep mountains and the lapping Loch water is fantastic. If you have time for a peaceful yet inspiring getaway, this is the place! Your place on Loch Torridon and surrounding country is awe inspiring. The majesty of the mountains and the primordial grandeur of the setting was a spiritual lift. I feel most fortunate to have found your hideaway from the modern world and hope to return. The drive to Applecross was breathtaking!”
Ginny, August 2018 "What a magical time we spent at Badan Mhugaidh in your lovely cottage.
Everything was of such a high standard and so beautifully furnished absolutely 5*. The bedrooms were so comfortable with the lovely beds and linen, and the bathrooms perfect. We were in no rush to go out either in the daytime as the views from the cottage were both mesmerizing and memorable. And indeed we had supper at “home” on two evenings and lit the woodburner and had everything we needed in the well equipped kitchen. We were most impressed with the very high standard of “recycling” and hope we managed to live up to your high standards in this department and put everything in its proper place!
We really do hope to return for another magical holiday of wonderful views, extreme comfort and relaxation.
Many thanks."
Genevieve August 2018 “A beautiful spot, and gorgeous guest house with very welcome modern amenities, spotlessly clean, tidy, and extremely comfortable. We would definitely return to Nigel and Jan's.”
Ann, August 2018 “What a stylish place to stay in a beautiful location. Thoroughly recommend for a relaxing stay.”
Craig, August 2018 “Amazing property in a stunning location. This is perfect for NC500 travellers, outdoor enthusiasts or anyone who just wants to get away from it all. The facilities are great, the beds and sofas are very comfortable and the decor is perfect for any Farrow & Ball addict. The drying area is a great idea and essential for most Scottish holidays. Dogs are welcomed and their needs have been considered. Jan and Nigel are perfect hosts. We tried all their restaurant recommendations and were not disappointed. Torridon is a fantastic area with much more to see than a quick guide book glance would suggest. There are lots of walks that can be done from the doorstep and the Loch is just a 2 minute walk away.”
The Wrights, July 2018 “We have thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. The weather was kind, the dogs were happy, and the beds, as you promised, were super comfy 😊. The house, its location, décor, and the scenery surrounding it, helped us relax almost instantly. I wish you well for the remainder of the season. Kind thoughts and best wishes.”
Cristina & Marco, July 2018 “The stay at the Cottage of Nigel and Jan have been really amazing. We have appreciated the armony between the house and the surrounding nature, the attention about the small things such as the utilization of renewable energy for the house and the use of local products for the kitchen and the bathroom. The cottage has been tastefully decorated and helps you to appreciate the incredible landscape in which it’s located. What else to say... highly recommended!!! ”
Rachelle, June 2018 “Perfect home in an idyllic spot. Beautifully designed and well equipped. Particularly loved the boot/drying/dog room. Hiking right from the back door! Jan and Nigel were terrific hosts, thoughtful and available to answer any questions. Looking forward to returning again someday soon.”
Andrew & Danielle, June 2018 “Nigel & Jan are brilliant hosts, on hand should you need anything from advice/top tips about the local area or another towel! The house is very stylish and very comfortable, the bed is probably the best we’ve slept in! We were lucky enough to have some great weather during our stay and enjoyed some truly fantastic views of the mountains opposite. The location is a great stepping off point for Torridon, Applecross and Shieldaig. All these things combined to make for a very restful and enjoyable stay. We’ll definitely be back.”
Kathryn, May 2018 “The cottage is well-designed and exceptionally comfortable. The setting is spectacularly beautiful. We stayed six nights rather than the three we intended because we couldn’t imagine a better spot. We especially enjoyed the ability to walk on the old road along the Loch to the Torridon Inn and kayaking with Tom (Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures).”
Susie, May 2018 “Really fabulous place to stay. Wonderful cosy cottage with amazing views. Wonderful local walks. Incredible bed! We will definitely return.”
Allan, May 2018 “Go try it you will not be disappointed”
Catriona, April 2018 "The most amazing place and a lovely couple made us all so welcome. The dogs loved it to ! Red deer in the morning just outside the house and just stunning scenery around the whole property. Torridan mountains and Loch make it magical. So quiet and peaceful. Fab seafood nearby. High recommend this accommadation. We will be back in October !"

We would definitely recommend to anyone!”
Paul, March 2018 “Staying at Nigel and Jan’s cottage is a real life experience. In the middle of the wildest and most astonishing nature, you will find there the true Scottish spirit. It’s a cozy and practical place in the most beautiful part of the Highlands. Do not hesitate for a second”
David Feb 2018 “Without question the most scenic location we've ever been lucky enough to stay in. Can't remember staying in a more stylish/contempory house. Can't wait to return.”
Andrew Feb 2018 “Nigel and Jan’s place is fantastic. Lovely cottage, which is stylish in design and suitably kitted out for long walks in the countryside, which is exactly what we wanted. The views are amazing, and there are a handful of good walks directly from the house. We even managed to find a “secret beach”. Perfect stay. Thanks so much.”
Joelle, Tom & Ernie cocker spaniel Jan 2018 “Nigel and Jan’s place is wonderful and we would absolutely recommend a stay here to switch off, recharge and explore the amazing surroundings. The location is stunning, on the banks of the loch, with amazing views out of all of the windows. So much care and consideration has gone into the design, layout and interior of the cottages. There are two cottages next door to each other but they are very private. They are connected via a shared boot room which is a great and functional addition (perfect for letting the dog dry off after a long walk!). Thank you again for a lovely stay! ”
Dan, Gillian & doggies Edward & Brian Dec 2017 “Amazing stay at a hidden gem of a location in the Scottish Highlands. If you want peace and quiet in a stunning setting this is the place for you we will be back!”
Pulakit Dec 2017 “Luxurious and cosy cottage, beautiful lake and mountain views, great location for exploring Strathcarron, Applecross, Torridon, etc.”
Padma Dec 2017 “The photos fail to do justice to the place. It is way more prettier than what can be noted from the pictures. Nigel & Jan are excellent hosts - prompt with responses, welcoming and proactively helpful. Each evening they had set the fire in the fireplace to keep the rooms warm even before we arrived. The cottages are very tastefully done with all necessary amenities available and Nigel personally walked up to our cottage to help if we had any issues at all. We travelled with our pet dog, Cookie during Christmas and found a Christmas cookie for our dog, Cookie left at the kitchen counter by them along with Christmas cakes for us. A highly recommended place.”
Caroline Nov 2017 “We had an exceptionally comfortable stay at Nigel and Jan’s. A beautifully scenic location with lots of walks available from the doorstep and nearby. They included some wonderful local produce provided for breakfast which was very thoughtful and made our stay feel luxurious.”
Karen & Mayur Nov 2017 “This cottage has everything you need for an amazing stay and to come away completely chilled. The long weekend we had felt like we'd been away a month. From the welcome you get through to the stunning scenery, everything is made even more special by the comfort of the cottage. The design and layout has been really well thought through and is such a calming place. We can't recommend this place enough.”
Liam Nov 2017 “Gorgeous views from the property, and immaculately decorated inside. Nigel and Jan were nice enough to recommend us places to eat in the evening and pointed out good walks in the area for some exploration. Will definitely be recommending to friends!”
Tessa Nov 2017 “An amazing Airbnb, one of the best I’ve stayed in! The house is beautifully furnished to a very high standard with everything you could need - log fire, board games & the most comfy super king sized bed. It was very luxurious! The location is so peaceful with amazing scenery all around. The hosts were wonderful and checked to make sure we were comfortable as well as to welcome us to the property. Really, really nice - this would make a perfect retreat for a week or more and I just wish we had stayed longer."
Courtney Oct 2017 “An incredible location with stunning views of the loch! Nigel and Jan had a fire started when we arrived, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless. Nigel and Jan gave recommendations for places or things to see and were great hosts. The Cottage had everything we needed. A town with a few shops is just a few minutes away for groceries or drinks. It is a drive and in an isolated area, but we would absolutely return and recommend a few nights stay!”
Barry Oct 2017 “Our expectations were high and they were not only met but exceeded. An amazing property with such attention to detail and experience that we will be back in a heartbeat. Nigel & Jan are great hosts and we loved our stay. Would recommend to all.”
Tom Oct 2017 “An excellent stay in our favourite stop on the trip. Nigel and Jan were very welcoming and friendly hosts. They gave a very detailed induction to the home and facilities (I'm a step closer to buying an IKEA kitchen) and also gave some very useful tips on the local area. I would recommend taking the short walk down to Loch Torridon which is both absolutely stunning and peaceful. Nigel offered to let us know if he saw the Northern Lights in the night so we wouldn't miss them. If you are on the North Coast 500 trip, Balgy Bridge is particularly good to stop at because it is on the official road of the tour and requires no diversion from your route. If there was one suggestion for improvement I would make, it would be that the driveway from the main road up to house be touched-up a bit; as this was very lumpy and bumpy to drive along when arriving/leaving.”
Charles Oct 2017 “This is a fabulous house on the banks of Loch Torridon - the views are amazing and the house was extremely clean and comfortable. It had all the amenities that you could hope for. The provided breakfast was also fantastic. We would love to return in future!”
Pete & Dan Sep 2017 [written on a gorgeous card from local artist Lisa O’Brien] “Dear Jan & Nigel, a beautiful card from a local artist to say thank you for a wonderful stay at Badan Mhugaidh. We instantly fell in love with this stunning part of the world and relaxed the moment we parked the car! The house had everything we could possibly need for a relaxing stay – particularly the view of the loch! We were rewarded this morning by a visit from four deer, who trotted past the window as we were getting up. The perfect end to a wonderful holiday! Many, many thanks again, and best wishes. Dan & Pete”
Richard and Rob Oct 2017 "This accommodation is unmissable. It was such a pleasure to stay in that we can’t imagine there’s anywhere better to stay. It was our favourite accommodation on the entire North Coast 500 route. Jan and Nigel have thought of everything. The location is beautiful, we can see why they fell in love with Torridon. It’s secluded but yet only a few minutes by road to some great local places to eat. The accommodation is lovely, tastefully decorated and furnished, comfortable, relaxing and we loved the fact that they had really thought through everything that a guest could possibly want for a relaxing stay. We were sad to only stay one night and we really want to come back and stay again and do some walking in the area. We also received a fantastic welcome, excellent pre-arrival information and suggestions for our ongoing trip after we left which was really lovely. Jan and Nigel clearly wanted to show off their part of the world and make sure we had a fantastic time - surely this is what air BnB is all about. In addition, the building is off grid with solar power and the water is basically Torridon mineral water as it’s from a private bore hole supply and not mains water. It’s filtration system is inspected by Scottish Water and completely safe and we loved the environmentally friendly aspects of this and the idea that even the tap water was from local source. Absolutely faultless and we will be back!"
Jules Oct 2017 "It was suggested that the scenery may be enough. It most certainly was- awe inspiring does not do justice to the place. The house itself is special- exactly as advertised. Fittings are above the standard expected and small touches such as the home baked shortbread made the stay special. I wanted to escape for a few days and this place achieved this perfectly. There are some lovely places around and we did visit these. All in all a perfect place. I want to go back."
Fiona & Iain Oct 2017 “Jan and Nigel were fantastic hosts, their beautiful house was so cosy with the wood burning stove on for our arrival. The location was stunning and we were able to completely chill out. Can't wait to go back with the rest of the family! Thank you Jan and Nigel!”
Ed & Leslie Oct 2017 “This is a beautiful space thoughtfully created to fit into the environment. It is spotlessly clean, with great amenities and the most comfortable bed you will ever sleep in. Nigel was very helpful in making a recommendation on the route we should take for our next day and a wonderful cafe that we should have lunch at that we never would have otherwise known about.”
Duncan & Sylvie Oct 2017 “Remote but remarkable spot beside Loch Torridon. Nigel and Jan have worked tirelessly to make this amazing, comfortable and beautiful house a wonderful place to have a holiday.”
Lynne & Bob Sep 2017 “Fabulous location on the shore of Upper Loch Torridon; beautiful cottage with excellent amenities.”
Jonathan Sep 2017 “This is a truly special place next to a beautiful loch and in the shadow of the hills. The accommodation was fantastic, exactly what we needed after a long drive. Without a doubt, one of the best places we stayed during our Highland tour. We'd highly recommend.”
Sam Sep 2017 “Amazing location! Beautifully built and decorated cottages, super comfy beds, and brilliant showers. 5 star luxury in the Highlands. Highly recommended!”
Nik & Dave Sep 2017 “A beautiful house in a beautiful place. We were upstairs and had amazing views out of our bedroom and ensuite. The cottage is very peaceful, and the stylish decor is very tastefully done to add to the ambience. Everything has been designed and kept to a very high standard. Both Jan and Nigel were really welcoming, meeting us as we arrived, showing us round and making sure we had everything we needed for our stay, without being intrusive. Nigel even came over to show us the northern lights which were visible from the decking of the cottage! All round great stay.”
Donald & Bridie Sep 2017 “Nigel and Jan have put a lot of thought into making these cottages very special. They are light and airy and the colour palettes used throughout are calming. Very comfortable bed, good bed linen. I liked the special touches....some lovely edibles left in the fridge for us and replenished daily. It was raining while we were staying but that was no hardship as it was a delight to sit in the comfort of the living room, in front of the wood-burning stove, reading our books. Views great! Thank you.”
Nickie & Jamie Sep 2017 “What a spectacular place to stay, five-star accommodation! The views are breathtaking and the cottage is beautifully designed and furnished to the highest spec and quality. The comfortable plush bedding, organic toiletries and fluffy towels added to the luxurious experience. A wonderfully stocked kitchen, with tasty coffee and breakfast treats was just great. Jan and Nigel, are so friendly and warm, and helpfully shared their rich local knowledge. Torridon is an unbelievable location, too. There are many beautiful places in Scotland but this is top of the list. The area boasts amazing hiking opportunities and outdoor activities. For those who prefer a gentle walk, there is a gentle 6.5 km walk (there and back) to a local pub/restaurant there and back. Shieldaig is a short drive too, a pretty little village well worth a visit, we had some great grub at Nanny’s cafe. The viewing deck offer stunning views and even on a colder evening we wrapped up warm and enjoyed a glass of red and soaked in the views of the loch. Jan and Nigel have created a little piece of heaven and we will be back, if we are able to secure a booking!!!”
Elaine & Neil Sep 2017 “This place is truly amazing. The location, accommodation and everything about it is 5 star. Nigel and Jan are fantastic hosts who pay such attention to detail to ensure your stay will be perfect.”

John Aug 2017 “This is one of the best appointed and finished cottages we have stayed in. Two en-suite bedrooms is quite a rarity and the boot/drying/dog room was amazing. The views are wonderful and the hosts very friendly and helpful. Quite remote, so you would struggle without a car. We also took the boat trip out of Shieldaig to see the Sea Eagles - who actually made an appearance! A very pleasant stay.”
Marlena Aug 2017 “The place is amazing! The views breathtaking. If you are looking for some quiet time it's for you. Nigel and Jan were very helpful even before we visited, with the site, recommendations etc. The house is new, clean, the setting just perfect. Thank you for your hospitality.”
Jasmin Aug 2017 “We adored our brief stay at Badan Mhugaidh and it's sure to be a place we return to. Nigel and Jan made our stay easy and effortless. The space was perfectly appointed with modern amenities and old fashioned charm, we had a delicious highland breakfast, and were beyond inspired by the scenery. We also took a drive recommended by Nigel that added so much flavor to our travels. We also saw two stags on the property! I could not recommend staying here more. It's beyond lovely!”

Martha Aug 2017 “Fabulous, high spec cottages with all possible amenities for a relaxing stay, gorgeous rooms with views at every window. Nigel and Jan lit the fire for us when we were arriving late on a wet night so we arrived into a beautifully warm cosy house.”
ALUCINANTE!”
Sam Aug 2017 “Truly amazing! The location is breathtaking but the cottage is perfect. One of the most stylish places I've stayed, the beds you barely want to get out of they are so comfortable. Everything is of the highest spec and caters for all your needs. A wonderfully stocked kitchen and great coffee. Perfect to have breakfast on the veranda over-looking the views of the loch. I will be back (if there are any spaces as this place will be booked regularly). Thank you Nigel and Jan...wonderful welcome, stay and farewell.”

Skye Jul 2017 “This place was absolutely luxury. A brand new place but they managed to retain all the charm of the old quaint cottages of the area. Nigel and Jan were very friendly, gave me a good history of the place, and are very helpful to those who are wanting to investigate their family origins - they will link you with the right people. Bed was the best I've slept in in any hotel accommodation ... really everything just stunning. Would strongly recommend booking and just enjoying this area, which was the best the area has to offer”
Dave & Lucy Jul 2017 “Nigel and Jan have built an amazing place to stay, in such an amazing part of the countryside. They are great hosts, great to talk to and very welcoming. You couldn't ask for anything more from the accommodation, it has everything you could possibly need! Well worth a visit!”
